The City of Dana Point, California recently joined two other Orange County communities — Huntington Beach and Newport Beach — in selecting the LODGINGRevs solution for short-term rental (STR) compliance. LODGINGRevs will replace Dana Point’s previous provider, bolstering the City’s STR program with industry-leading identification, monitoring and compliance software.

As a tourist destination with picturesque beaches and easy access to a multitude of recreational activities, Dana Point draws thousands of visitors each year. Like many other popular locations around the country, the City has been working hard to find and maintain balance in the STR realm. While STRs can provide a more affordable and flexible option for visitors, how to regulate this increasingly popular type of accommodation has been a topic of discussion for years.

Following several meetings, workshops and a public feedback survey focused on STR policy, Dana Point City Council officially passed an ordinance on June 1, 2021. Scheduled to have taken effect July 1, the ordinance is expected to enhance local regulations, addressing issues such as occupancy limits, outside noise and response times for STR owners/managers to resolve issues.

Like fellow SoCal coastal cities of Newport Beach and Oceanside, Dana Point also previously worked with a different software provider before partnering with LODGINGRevs. Upon seeking a higher level of customer service, all three cities have switched to LODGINGRevs for STR compliance services. The Colorado-based software company is also set to provide Dana Point with an online transient occupancy tax (TOT) collection system and a 24/7 bilingual complaint hotline.

Among LODGINGRevs’ featured offerings, the complaint hotline will allow residents to submit their concerns and then hotline agents will reach out to the STR property’s emergency contact to report the complaint and begin the resolution process. The City will also receive immediate notifications when any complaints are submitted via the hotline. This system will replace the City’s current hotline, which is limited to documenting complaints and notifying City staff via email.
